The Vaccines

Rudivax contains the Wistar RA 27/3 strain of the rubella vaccine and is manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur in France

Meruvax contains the Wistar RA 27/3 strain of the rubella vaccine and is manufactured by Merck in the USA.

The vaccines are prescription only unlicensed medicines in the UK

Effectiveness

The vaccine provides effective immunity in over 95% of people immunised

Vaccination age

The vaccination can be given at any time from 12 months. This vaccine is also suitable for adult women.

Side effects

A few people will have the symptoms of a mild attack of rubella, for example a fever and rash, a few days after immunisation. Rarely a temporary arthralgia (painful joints) can occur that is occasionally temporarily disabling, but this is more likely in older children or adults.
